Developing Creativity through InterACTion: The Erinoak Drama Program
InterACTion, the Erinoak Drama Program was founded in 1999. Since then, our performers have grown immeasurably, discovering in themselves new possibilities for thought and dramatic expression.
The program began as a single drama class for individuals under age 19 with a variety of challenges. It has grown and flourished. We recently received an award from the Mississauga Arts Council in the category of Best Emerging Performing Arts Group. This year, with the help of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we expanded our reach by forming a partnership with Cawthra Park Secondary School and bringing young people together to create theatre.
Some of our young clients enjoy the thrill and exhilaration of live performance while others prefer to use theatre largely for self-exploration and expression so we offer those two distinct directions in the Erinoak Drama Program. Young performers are given the choice of moving between groups as they explore other approaches. In addition, our summer camp experiences and Saturday workshops offer other opportunities for training and experimentation.
In bringing theatre by the differently able into the spotlight, InterACTion has increased the options available to individuals and enriched theatrical opportunities for the community as a whole.

In June 2005, Erinoak Drama Program received an OTF grant of $187,900 over five years to establish a unique collaboration between Erinoak’s Drama program and Cawthra Park Secondary School. This provides a year-long arts program for young people with mobility, developmental and speech challenges. | |
