Hon. Madeleine Meilleur Launches New Inclusive Definition of Francophone at OTF’s Charles Street Offices
Honourable Madeleine Meilleur, Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs | Earlier this month the Ontario Trillium Foundation was delighted to welcome the Honourable Madeleine Meilleur, Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs, to its Charles Street offices where she launched Ontario’s new inclusive definition of Francophone.
“As of now the definition of a Francophone in Ontario includes those individuals who speak mainly French at home, even though neither French nor English is their mother tongue,” said Minister Meilleur. “This means that Ontario allophones who speak French will now have a sense of truly belonging to the larger Francophone family.”
The minister concluded by saying the new inclusive definition of Francophone is one more proof of the vitality of our changing community.
Other distinguished guests at the launch included François Boileau, Commissioner of French Language Services, Lucille Roch, Deputy Minister of Francophone Affairs and Daniel Cayen, Assistant Deputy Minister of the Office of Francophone Affairs.
