Ms. Cheechoo’s contribution to the Foundation as a board member and as a member of the Province-Wide Grant Review Committee is valued. Her sensitivity and insight into the needs of Aboriginal and arts and cultural communities has been instrumental to the Foundation as we strive to reach out to those communities. We are proud that her work is being recognized by the Aboriginal Achievement Foundation. She is one of only 14 award recipients across the country.

Ms. Cheechoo has devoted her life to promoting indigenous peoples and their cultures.  She is an award winning actress, producer, director and visual artist. She is the first person from a First Nation to write, produce, direct and act in a feature length dramatic film in Canada, titled Bearwalker aka Backroads.

OTF congratulates Ms. Cheechoo for receiving the prestigious National Aboriginal Achievement Award. Her impressive commitment to her community; to her art; and to Ontario continues to inspire us all.
