Good ideas are common in the marketplace. But it is the right
combination of vision, resources and hard work that drives a good
idea to its realization. Recognizing a landmark capacity-building
innovation for the not-for-profit sector, OTF awarded a Province-Wide
grant of $804,900 over five years to Imagine Canada, formerly the
Canadian Centre for Philanthropy.
On September 20, 2005, Imagine Canada and OTF joined forces to
launch the first stage of a great project, matched by some substantial
support. A full cast of leaders in the not-for-profit and
voluntary sectors were on hand for the live, on-screen launch by
Madeleine Meilleur, Minister of Culture, and Sandra Pupatello,
Minister of Community and Social Services.
As part of this new initiative, Imagine Canada will partner with
16 community organizations throughout Ontario to launch the Nonprofit
Library Network. This interactive web-based initiative will
identify what resources these organizations require in order to
establish a network of information providers throughout the province.
"Canada's charities and nonprofit organizations do
important work in their communities," says Georgina Steinsky-Schwartz,
president and CEO of Imagine Canada. "The Nonprofit Library
Network will provide these organizations with more direct services
and better access to information."
Minister Meilleur commented: "This truly exciting
initiative will allow the not-for-profit sector work and grow together
in a virtual way."
OTF is pleased to support the creation of an immeasurably meaningful
resource and a legacy of innovation for years to come. The
content-rich, easily accessible web-based resource can be accessed
